Former Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Sule Lamido, has warned that he will take legal action against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party refuses to sell him a nomination form to contest for the position of National Chairman at its upcoming national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP convention is scheduled to take place in Ibadan on the 15th and 16th of November.

Lamido, who arrived at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja around 11 a.m. on Monday to purchase the form, expressed shock when he discovered that the National Organising Secretary could not confirm how many nomination forms had been printed for sale.

Speaking to journalists, he said, “PDP is a family of wonderful Nigerians committed to democracy and the progress of our country. Coming here is like returning home. I came today to purchase my form for the National Chairmanship position, as the party’s constitution provides that forms are sold at the national headquarters.”

Lamido further stated firmly, “If I don’t get the form, I’ll go to court. Simple.” The former governor also dismissed the reported endorsement of former Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Taminu Turaki (SAN), as the Northern consensus candidate for the chairmanship position.

“Consensus? There can only be consensus after consultations. But when there are no consultations, then we are not united. In my zone, for example, we never met,” Lamido asserted.

Lamido emphasized the urgent need for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put its house in order to enable it to perform well in future elections.

According to him, “The PDP must be able to organize itself and operate in line with its guiding principles and constitution, doing the right thing at all times. The only way we can win is by building a disciplined and well-structured party. You can’t expect us to get victory at the polls if we are disorganized and fail to follow our own rules and procedures.”
