President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that unity is essential for national progress, urging Nigerian leaders to draw inspiration from the natural confluence of the River Niger and River Benue in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Speaking at the Kogi Dialogue, an event marking Governor Ahmed Ododo’s first year in office, the President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described the rivers’ confluence as a metaphor for the collective strength needed to address Nigeria’s challenges and foster prosperity.
“Just as water merging with water becomes stronger, so must we as leaders and citizens merge our efforts to build a united and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
President Tinubu commended Governor Ododo for initiating the Kogi Dialogue, describing it as a visionary step toward reconciliation and progress. He called on political and community leaders to prioritize dialogue, build bridges, and support government efforts to create an environment conducive to growth.
Governor Ododo highlighted key achievements during his first year, including upgraded healthcare centers, improved educational infrastructure, free basic education, and bursaries for tertiary students. He expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Kogi for their unwavering support.
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, praised the harmonious relationship between the current and former governors of Kogi, describing it as vital for state development. Former Governor Yahaya Bello also commended the current administration for advancing the vision of Kogi’s founding fathers.
The visit culminated in the Vice President commissioning several road projects executed during Governor Ododo’s first year in office.
