Governors elected on the platform of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, under the leadership of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
Those present at the high-level gathering include Governors Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom).
Governors Dikko Radda (Katsina), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe) were absent but sent their deputies to represent them at the meeting.
Although the agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, a source within the forum told reporters that the governors are expected to deliberate on “critical national issues and matters affecting governance across the states.”
“The meeting is focused on strengthening collaboration among governors and addressing pressing socio-economic challenges facing the country,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Another aide at the venue confirmed that details of the resolutions reached would be made public after the meeting.
“There will be a formal briefing once deliberations are concluded,” the aide stated.
Security was noticeably tightened around the Imo Governor’s Lodge as the governors arrived, while journalists were kept at a distance.
As of the time of filing this report, discussions were still ongoing behind closed doors.
