The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) Nigeria have formalized a partnership to enhance climate adaptation strategies and strengthen early warning systems across key sectors, including agriculture, health, and economic development.
The collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on February 26, 2025, at CARE’s Abuja office, aims to drive sustainable interventions and create a robust policy and financing framework for climate-related initiatives in Nigeria.
Speaking at the signing, NiMet’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, emphasized the urgency of swift implementation. “With this agreement in place, both teams will immediately begin executing its terms. This is part of our broader efforts to build resilience among farmers and other climate information users,” he stated.
CARE Nigeria’s Country Director, Dr. Hussaini Abdu, lauded the rapid progress made in formalizing the partnership. “We met just last week, and within a short time, we’ve successfully put this MoU together. This efficiency reflects our shared commitment to climate resilience. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with NiMet,” he said.
The agreement, which is set for an initial 10-year period, is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to mitigate climate risks, support sustainable food systems, and drive humanitarian risk reduction efforts. It may be renewed upon mutual agreement.
