Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has stirred up a new conversation about dating standards after recounting an encounter that left her completely uninterested in a potential suitor.
She explained that she had been chatting with a man based in the UK, but their conversation paused when she got into a minor car accident that damaged her tyres. When he later checked in, she told him, “Sorry, I had a minor accident and I need to get two new tyres for my car.”
According to Nkechi, his response was far from what she expected. He simply said, “Sorry about that babe, hope you were not hurt,” and ended with a short “ok.” She said the reply instantly put her off because she believes that a man who is serious about building a relationship should show care and initiative, even if she doesn’t need his financial help. For her, a simple offer like “How much is the tyre? Let me get it for you,” would have shown thoughtfulness.
Instead, the man told her, “Oh sorry, just get it sorted out,” and moved on. Nkechi replaced the tyres herself. Hours later, he returned to the chat, saying he had been in a long meeting and asking if she had fixed the issue. She confirmed she had bought “two brand-new tyres” and ended the conversation there.
Nkechi contrasted his behaviour with that of a male friend in Abuja, whom she described as a “perfect gentleman.” She said that when she mentioned having a gig in Abuja, he immediately asked her to book a hotel and assured her he would take care of the bill. Even when she insisted she could pay, he told her, “No, I got this.” She emphasized that he wasn’t trying to impress her, he was simply being considerate.
The actress stressed that her expectations are not about financial dependence but about a man showing genuine care. If he cannot step up in simple moments that matter, she has no interest in pursuing anything further.
Nkechi added that she is currently single and “testing the waters,” with several talking stages still ongoing.
