In a strategic move to strengthen its healthcare system and retain medical professionals, the Kwara State Government has approved the revised 2024 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors in the state.

The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board (KWHMB), Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, during a press briefing in Ilorin. Dr. Malik revealed that the updated salary structure is designed to address the persistent challenge of brain drain and encourage healthcare professionals to either remain in or return to the state’s health sector.

“The revision of CONMESS is a proactive policy aimed at improving manpower retention and ensuring that our healthcare facilities are staffed with skilled and motivated professionals,” he stated.

Outlining the broader vision of the KWHMB, Dr. Malik emphasized the board’s commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible, and preventive secondary healthcare services across Kwara State. He highlighted that part of the administration’s strategy includes integrating climate-smart healthcare solutions through renewable energy and sustainable water systems.

“We are investing in solar power installations and sustainable water systems at several healthcare facilities including General Hospital, Offa; Cottage Hospital, Adewole; and hospitals in Ajase Ipo, Eruku, Tsaragi, and Isin local government areas,” Dr. Malik explained. “This ensures uninterrupted, environmentally friendly healthcare services.”

Dr. Malik further noted that capacity building and continuous training for healthcare professionals remain central to the government’s healthcare agenda. By equipping medical staff with modern skills and resources, the state aims to enhance service delivery and overall health outcomes for residents.

The Kwara State Government’s approval of the revised 2024 CONMESS underscores its commitment to healthcare sector reforms, workforce welfare, and sustainable development in public health services.
