Former Miss Universe Nigeria contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, is facing fresh deportation proceedings in South Africa after being arrested in Cape Town over allegations of residing in the country illegally.
According to reports by South African publication Sunday World, the 25-year-old was arrested earlier this month in the Summer Greens area of Cape Town and subsequently appeared before a regional court on June 9.
Court documents indicate that Adetshina was released on warning following her appearance and is expected to return to court next month as authorities continue legal processes related to her immigration status.
The case is being pursued by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs, which is reportedly seeking her removal from the country. Officials allege that Adetshina does not possess the legal documentation required to remain in South Africa.
The development marks the latest chapter in a controversy that has drawn significant public attention since Adetshina’s rise to prominence in beauty pageantry. Her nationality and citizenship status became a subject of debate during her participation in national pageants, generating widespread discussions across both South Africa and Nigeria.
Neither Adetshina nor her legal representatives had publicly responded to the latest reports at the time of filing this report.
The outcome of the case is expected to determine whether the former beauty queen will be allowed to remain in South Africa or face deportation proceedings in the coming weeks.
