In a compassionate gesture aimed at restoring dignity and stability to communities devastated by violence, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has announced a ₦1 billion donation through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to assist victims of the recent suspected herders’ attack in Benue State.
The donation was disclosed during her condolence visit to the state, held at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House in Makurdi. The First Lady was responding to the deadly assault on Yelewata community in June, which left over 100 people dead and displaced hundreds more.
“On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI will be making a donation of ₦1 billion to help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life,” Tinubu declared.
She emphasized that the donation aligns with RHI’s mission of rebuilding lives and promoting resilience among vulnerable families, encapsulated in its motto: “Towards a Better Life for Families.”
Senator Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and displacement caused by the attack, acknowledging the pain felt across affected communities.
“As a mother, it is heartbreaking to witness this level of destruction. These are challenging times, and we must play our part to support one another,” she said. “Hope is not lost. We’ve heard your cries, and I believe the First Lady of Nasarawa State, who is here with us, has heard you too.”
The Renewed Hope Initiative continues to champion humanitarian efforts across Nigeria, focusing on health, education, economic empowerment, and crisis response for vulnerable populations.
