Five members of the House of Representatives from Enugu State have officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers who switched parties are Okei Martins, Anayo Onwugbu, Danis Nnamdi, Chidi Obetta, and Nnolim Nnaji.
In a related development, the member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Daniel Asama, also defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the APC.
The defecting lawmakers attributed their decision to the internal crises and divisions within the PDP, which they said had made it difficult to effectively represent their constituencies.
Their defection was witnessed at the Chamber of the House of Representatives by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The latest wave of defections is seen as a major political development ahead of upcoming elections, to further strengthen the presence of the APC’s in the South East and North Central regions.
