The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has mandated the installation of Anti-Spill Locks on all vehicles transporting flammable substances. This measure aims to prevent fuel spillage during accidents, thereby reducing the risk of explosions and fire outbreaks.

Controller General of the FFS, Jaji Abdulganiyu, announced the directive while inaugurating a six-week training program for Chief Superintendents of Fire in Sheda, Abuja. He emphasized that fire incidents are largely preventable and stressed the urgent need for fuel tankers to be equipped with essential safety mechanisms to mitigate hazards in fuel transportation.

As part of efforts to address recurring tanker explosions, Abdulganiyu disclosed that he recently engaged the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to explore practical solutions for improving fuel transportation safety.

Highlighting the importance of continuous training, he noted that over 325 fire officers have undergone professional development since the inception of the training program a year and a half ago. He reaffirmed that capacity-building initiatives remain a top priority under his leadership to enhance fire safety and emergency response capabilities across the country.
