Former Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu, has died after a prolonged illness, family sources have confirmed.
Aliyu, who served as deputy governor under former Governor Saidu Usman Dakingari, reportedly died in Sokoto.
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris described his death as a significant loss to the Yauri Emirate, Kebbi State and Nigeria, paying tribute to a man he said dedicated his life to public service.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, the governor praised the late statesman for his integrity, humility and commitment to the development of the state.
Governor Idris said Aliyu earned widespread respect during his career in the civil service and later as deputy governor, where he was recognised for his honesty and selfless leadership.
He added that the former deputy governor’s contributions to governance and public welfare would remain part of Kebbi State’s history.
“His invaluable contributions to the development of our state and his unwavering commitment to the welfare of our people will continue to inspire generations,” the governor said.
The governor also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
He extended his condolences to Aliyu’s family, the Yauri Emirate and the people of Kebbi State, praying that they find the strength to bear the loss.
