Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and reportedly carted away firearms belonging to officers on duty.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway, near the NNPC filling station.
Sources said the attackers stormed the office while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. During the operation, the officers on duty were reportedly overpowered and dispossessed of their weapons.
The exact number of firearms taken by the assailants could not be immediately confirmed.
After carrying out the attack, the gunmen reportedly fled the area under the cover of darkness.
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had yet to receive an official briefing on the development.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement on the attack. Efforts were, however, ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend those responsible.
