A heavily pregnant woman, identified as Hauwa Shafiu, has been arrested by security operatives in Abuja for allegedly providing logistical support to a notorious kidnapping gang operating within and around the Federal Capital Territory.
According to security sources, Shafiu was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation that targeted members and collaborators of the criminal syndicate. Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly played a key support role by preparing meals and supplying essential items to gang members while they carried out their activities.
Authorities said her arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and cut off their supply chains. Security officials noted that criminal groups often rely on logistical support from accomplices who may not directly participate in abductions but contribute to sustaining their operations.
The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the gang. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to combating kidnapping and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
The development has sparked reactions among residents, with many expressing concern over the involvement of individuals in support roles that enable criminal activities. Authorities say further investigations are ongoing and more arrests may follow.
