A female student of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has alleged that she was physically assaulted by a soldier during a reported invasion of her hostel, sparking outrage and prompting an official military investigation.
The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, recounted the traumatic experience, claiming that the soldier pinned her against a bathroom door and assaulted her during the incident.
According to her account, the soldier was among security personnel who entered the hostel premises under circumstances that are now being investigated. She alleged that the encounter left her shaken and traumatized.
“I was pinned to the bathroom door and assaulted. It was a terrifying experience that I never imagined I would go through,” she reportedly said while narrating the incident.
The allegation has generated widespread reactions on social media, with students and rights advocates calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
In response, the Nigerian Army confirmed that it has commenced an investigation into the incident. Military authorities said the allegations are being treated seriously and assured the public that anyone found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with military regulations and the law.
Army officials urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to run its course, stressing the institution’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and the protection of civilians.
