Nigeria Condoles China Over Deadly Gansu Landslide Disaster

The Federal Government has expressed condolences to China following a deadly landslide that struck Tanchang County in Gansu Province, killing at least 21 people and leaving others affected as rescue operations continue.

In a statement, the government said it was deeply saddened by the tragedy, which occurred this week and extended its sympathies to the Chinese government, the families of the victims and everyone impacted by the disaster.

“Nigeria mourns the loss of lives in this disaster, which has claimed at least 21 lives, with others affected amid the rescue operations,” the statement said.

The government also offered prayers for those who lost loved ones and property, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, the injured, and all those who have lost loved ones or property in this unfortunate incident,” it added.

Nigeria praised the swift response of Chinese authorities and emergency teams, commending ongoing efforts to rescue survivors and provide relief to affected communities.

The statement reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between both countries, describing Nigeria and China as strategic partners bound by mutual respect, friendship and cooperation.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with China during this difficult time, and we are confident in the resilience of the Chinese people and government as they work towards recovery and rehabilitation in the affected areas,” the government said.

It also prayed for the peaceful repose of those who died, strength for bereaved families and a full recovery for the injured.
