The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has called for faster judicial approvals to strengthen criminal investigations and improve the administration of justice in Abuja.

Sanusi made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration between the police and the judiciary.

The police commissioner said effective policing depends on a strong partnership with the courts, stressing that timely issuance of search warrants, bench warrants and other judicial authorisations is essential for successful investigations and prosecution of criminal cases.

“Effective policing and the administration of justice are mutually reinforcing and require sustained collaboration between both institutions,” Sanusi said.

He also raised concerns over delays in prosecuting some criminal cases, noting that prolonged trials often result in suspects remaining in police custody for extended periods, worsening congestion in detention facilities.

Sanusi appealed to the judiciary to continue supporting the police through the prompt processing of court orders needed for investigations and law enforcement operations.

Responding, Chief Judge Husseini Baba Yusuf welcomed the police commissioner and described his appointment as timely, expressing confidence that his experience would strengthen security and justice delivery across the FCT.

“Your wealth of experience will further enhance security and the administration of justice within the FCT,” the Chief Judge said.

Justice Yusuf acknowledged the concerns raised by the police commissioner and assured him of the judiciary’s continued institutional support to improve the efficiency of the criminal justice system.

He also urged sustained cooperation between the police and the judiciary, describing their relationship as vital to preserving the rule of law and maintaining public confidence in the justice system.

The visit ended with an exchange of commemorative gifts and group photographs, symbolising the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening criminal justice delivery in the Federal Capital Territory.
