Two people have died in a road crash along the Leme section of the Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) blaming excessive speeding for the fatal collision.
The crash involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number AYT 837 QU, according to the Ogun State Command of the FRSC.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Odunsin, said rescue operatives responded to the emergency within five minutes of receiving the distress call.
“The crash incident involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU. FRSC rescue operatives received the distress, arrived at the scene and responded within five minutes,” Odunsin said.
He said six adult males were involved in the collision.
“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash.
Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved,” he added.
Odunsin said FRSC personnel evacuated the victims, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary in Abeokuta.
He added that officers recovered personal belongings, including an identity card and a mobile phone, before clearing the road to restore the free flow of traffic.
The FRSC said preliminary findings indicated that speeding caused the crash, warning that excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents because it reduces drivers’ reaction time and increases the severity of collisions.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to obey traffic regulations.
“We urge all motorists, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly obey speed limits, remain vigilant and avoid dangerous driving behaviours,” Ogunjobi said.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public education and prompt rescue operations.
The FRSC also urged members of the public to report road crashes and other emergencies through its toll-free emergency number 122 or the nearest FRSC patrol team.
