A man identified as Azeez has reportedly died after he was allegedly beaten by suspected cultists during a dispute over a missing mobile phone in Lagos.

The incident reportedly occurred last week in the Oko-Oba area of Agege after a birthday celebration.

According to anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra, the dispute began when a phone allegedly went missing during the gathering.

The platform said a man identified as Abela allegedly picked up the phone during a fight and handed it to Azeez for safekeeping.

The phone’s owner later discovered that it was missing and reportedly traced it to Azeez.

Naija Confra said Azeez explained that Abela had given him the phone, but Abela allegedly denied doing so.

The disagreement reportedly escalated, with the phone’s owner and some associates allegedly assaulting Azeez before leaving the venue.

The platform said Azeez later confronted Abela over the alleged denial, leading to another confrontation.

It further alleged that suspected members of a cult group subsequently took Azeez to another location, where he was allegedly attacked.

Azeez reportedly sustained serious injuries during the assaults and later died from them.

Naija Confra, which published an account of the incident, alleged that the attack was linked to the dispute over the missing phone.

The circumstances surrounding Azeez’s death, including the identities of those responsible, have not been independently established from the information available.

Police authorities had not been quoted in the account as confirming the incident or announcing arrests.
