The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine from a courier company in Lagos, describing it as the agency’s largest cocaine seizure from a courier firm.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, said two suspects, socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KC Luxury, and Lawal Kehinde, an employee of a logistics company, had been arrested in connection with the consignment.
Marwa said the cocaine was valued at $27.7 million, equivalent to about N39 billion.
He said the arrests followed collaboration between the NDLEA and the management of the logistics company.
According to him, KC Luxury was arrested at the Lagos airport while allegedly attempting to leave the country following the seizure.
The NDLEA chairman also disclosed that Nigeria was increasingly being used as a transit hub for illicit drugs destined for the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia.
He said investigations were ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the seized consignment.
