President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission (NSC) says the players have started receiving payments of about ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the presidential reward.
Tinubu made the promise after the Super Falcons staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco in the final and secure their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Nigeria were trailing 2-0 before producing an impressive second-half performance to overturn the deficit and reclaim the continental crown.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed gratitude to the President for fulfilling his promise, describing the payment as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.
The NSC says the gesture demonstrates the government’s commitment to rewarding sporting excellence and motivating Nigerian athletes to achieve greater success internationally.
Tinubu also fulfilled a similar $100,000 reward promise to members of D’Tigress following their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria secured a fifth consecutive continental title.
The Commission commended the President for his continued support for Nigerian athletes, saying the rewards encourage accountability, national pride and confidence among sports administrators and competitors.
