A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has submitted the name of former President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general election.
The group, led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki (SAN), also says it has filed an appeal against a recent Federal High Court judgment in Abuja over the party’s leadership dispute.
The announcement was made on Saturday at a news conference in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the faction’s Interim National Working Committee (INWC), Comrade Ini Ememobong.
According to Ememobong, the interim leadership emerged after what the faction described as the Supreme Court’s ruling on the PDP leadership crisis, which it claimed left the party without a legally recognised national leadership.
He said the faction maintains that it is the authentic leadership of the PDP and that it validly nominated former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate, alongside governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly candidates for the 2027 elections.
“The party’s authentic leadership validly nominated former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate alongside governorship, National Assembly and state assembly candidates,” Ememobong said.
He added that the party’s Board of Trustees and a National Executive Committee meeting convened through members’ requisition subsequently established the Interim National Working Committee to oversee the party’s affairs.
“The decision constituting the Interim National Working Committee has been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission,” he said.
The faction also confirmed that it has lodged an appeal against the Federal High Court judgment, insisting it remains committed to pursuing legal remedies over the party’s leadership dispute.
The development comes as the PDP continues to grapple with internal leadership disagreements ahead of preparations for the 2027 general election.
