Community Outrage as Suspected Minor Herder Kills Woman in Obi LGA

The tragic killing of 35-year-old Mrs. Kpadoo Lazarus Uwua by a suspected minor herder in Imon community, Adudu Chiefdom, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for justice and communal harmony.

Correspondent Member Madaki reports that the victim, a mother of three, succumbed to severe machete wounds inflicted by the suspect following an altercation over fishing activities. Witnesses say the herder accused Mrs. Uwua and others of polluting a water body before the dispute escalated into violence on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria Precious FM, the victim’s family expressed deep sorrow over the incident. Mr. Matthew Aondo, a relative, called on authorities, particularly Fulani leaders, to caution their youths against acts of violence that could incite ethnic tensions and disrupt peace in the region.

Imon Community Youth Leader, Comrade Samuel Ortserga, also condemned the attack and confirmed the suspect’s arrest. According to him, the apprehension was made possible through collaboration between the Youth Leader of Ibuan community and their Fulani counterparts in Adudu Chiefdom. The suspect is now in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Appealing for calm, Ortserga urged the youth of Imon to allow the legal system to take its course. Similarly, Fulani Youth Leader in Adudu Chiefdom, Comrade Saleh Anaruwa, decried the senseless killing of an unarmed woman, emphasizing that no justification exists for such an act. He commended the restraint shown by Imon Youths despite their grief.

The District Head of Adudu Chiefdom, Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko, extended condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Imon community. He sternly warned herdsmen against engaging in violent activities that could escalate into a full-blown crisis. Tanko further assured the victim’s family of support, including arrangements for a proper burial.

Meanwhile, President of the Tiv Youth Organization in Nasarawa State, Comrade Isaiah Audu, lauded the swift intervention by Tiv and Fulani youths in securing the suspect’s arrest. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and maintain peace while seeking justice through legal channels.

As the community mourns, civil society organizations are calling on security agencies to ensure thorough investigations and swift prosecution of the suspect to prevent further violence. The remains of Mrs. Uwua have since been deposited in the mortuary, awaiting burial arrangements.
