In preparation for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Kano State Government has announced a mid-term holiday for all primary and post-primary schools across the state.
According to an official statement released on Monday by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the holiday will commence on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Boarding students are expected to remain on holiday until Sunday, June 15, 2025, while day students are scheduled to resume classes on Monday, June 16, 2025.
“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are kindly requested to pick up their children by the early hours of Wednesday, June 4, 2025,” the statement read.
The government emphasized that aside from this special Sallah break, other components of the 2024/2025 academic calendar, including official public holidays, will remain unaffected.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, expressed gratitude to parents and guardians for their consistent support of the state’s education system. He also extended warm Eid-el-Kabir wishes to students and their families.
“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the usual support and cooperation given to the Ministry by the good people of the state, and also wish the students and pupils a joyful and successful Sallah holiday,” Dr. Makoda stated.
This announcement comes a few months after a similar mid-term holiday was declared by the governments of Katsina, Kebbi, and Bauchi States in March 2025, when schools were directed to proceed on break for the entire month of Ramadan — a move that stirred debate as schools across other parts of Nigeria remained in session.
As Kano joins in marking this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festivities, authorities have urged parents to ensure their children return to school promptly after the break.
