The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly denied allegations that he allocated premium plots of land in Abuja to his children, describing the accusations as politically motivated and baseless.
In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is behind the allegations, which he referred to as “futile blackmail.”
“Let that fellow from Adamawa State, who is struggling to attack the FCT Minister for backing power rotation between the North and South, try harder. This latest effort, like the last, has already failed,” the statement read.
The minister’s aide dismissed recent reports linking Wike’s sons to land allocations in exclusive Abuja districts such as Asokoro and Maitama, claiming the documents cited were misleading and related to entirely different land transactions.
Olayinka clarified that the land in question was allocated to registered companies—JOAQ Farms and Jordan Farms and Estates Limited—not individuals. He emphasized that none of Wike’s children are directors or beneficiaries of the companies mentioned.
“Even if Wike’s children have the right, like every Nigerian, to own land if due process is followed, no such allocation has been made to them as of today,” he stated.
He challenged those behind the allegations to verify the ownership of the companies with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), insisting that the names and documentation do not link the firms to Wike’s family.
Drawing analogies, Olayinka added, “My name is Lere Olayinka, and there is Lere Local Government in Kaduna. Does that make me the owner of the LGA?”
The statement further criticized attempts to link security aides of the minister to land ownership based on procedural documentation handling.
Wike’s team maintains that the ongoing allegations are politically driven distractions aimed at undermining his work in the FCT under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
