President Kashim Shettima has departed for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.
Senegal marks its independence annually on April 4, commemorating its liberation from French colonial rule in 1960. The celebrations, held at Place de la Nation in Dakar, feature parades, cultural displays, and national ceremonies.
According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima’s visit follows an official invitation from Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The gesture underscores the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Senegal.
During the event, Vice President Shettima will join other high-ranking dignitaries from Africa and beyond. His presence reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and unity within West Africa.
The Vice President is scheduled to return to Nigeria following the one-day ceremony.
