As part of ongoing deliberations on the future of education and digital innovation in West Africa, members of the Joint Committee on Education, Science and Culture / Health / Telecommunications and Information Technology of the ECOWAS Parliament visited the Cheikh Hamidou Kane Digital University (UN-CHK) in Dakar on Thursday.
The visit aligns with the committee’s broader discussions on how digital technology and pedagogical innovation can be harnessed to enhance access to quality education across the ECOWAS region.
Established in 2013, UN-CHK has emerged as a pioneering model for digital higher education in West Africa. The public university delivers fully online programs through a comprehensive digital system that includes:
A network of open digital learning spaces across Senegal
A dynamic Learning Management System (LMS)
Accredited degree programs in fields such as science, technology, and management
Remote access to educational materials for students
Committee members were particularly impressed by the university’s decentralized approach and scalable model, which they believe can inspire the development of regional virtual campuses through interstate partnerships.
The visit to UN-CHK marks a step forward in ECOWAS’s commitment to transforming the education sector through technology-driven solutions, with the aim of improving youth access to inclusive and flexible learning environments.
