The National Assembly has introduced new security measures restricting movement around the office of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The development was announced in an internal memo dated October 2 and signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, Etido Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general.

According to the memo, the corridor connecting the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office will now be exclusively reserved for senators and members of the House of Representatives.

“Aides and personal assistants are no longer permitted access to the passage,” Ekpo stated.

The memo directed lawmakers to inform their staff accordingly, in order to ensure compliance with the new movement protocol.

Ekpo explained that the restrictions are part of broader efforts to ensure a “secure and safe environment” for legislative activities within the National Assembly complex.

The move comes just days before the National Assembly is set to resume plenary on October 7, following a recess that lasted more than two months.
