The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for 2025/2026 admissions into public universities from Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB mentions that the decision followed an appeal from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), which requests more time to finalize the admission process.
According to the statement, the appeal is prompted by several disruptions, including a court orderdirecting that the status quo be maintained on the 2025/26 admission list, an order that was only lifted on October 28, 2025.
JAMB also cited the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universitiesby the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, noting that admissions into these new programmes are still being scheduled.
While commending institutions for their cooperation and commitment to meeting the initial deadline, JAMB emphasized that the new November 17 deadline was final and must be strictly adhered to by all universities.
“The Board remains committed to ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and respects institutional autonomy,” the statement read.
It will be recalled that at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, October 31 had initially been set as the deadline for public universities to conclude their admissions.
