Kidnappers Abduct Seven Travelers In Ondo, Amotekun Nabs 28 Crime Suspects

Seven travelers were kidnapped by suspected armed men near Ipele, along the Owo-Benin highway in Ondo State.

According to sources, the victims were traveling from a South-South state to Akure, the Ondo State capital, when the abduction occurred over the weekend. Conflicting reports initially emerged about the number of kidnapped victims. However, Ondo State Police Command spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed that seven individuals were taken.

“The police have launched an operation to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue the victims as soon as possible,” Odunlami assured.

The suspects were later paraded in Akure on February 3, 2025.

Amotekun Arrests 28 Crime Suspects Across Ondo State
Meanwhile, operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested 28 individuals for various criminal offenses.

Among those apprehended is a 55-year-old alleged serial rapist, Ayodele Ijidakinro, who had recently completed a three-year prison sentence for the same crime.

During a press briefing at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, the corps’ commander, Adetunji Adeleye, stated that 24 suspects were arrested for different breaches of law and order, one for herders-farmers clashes, and three for kidnapping.

Three suspected kidnappers—Akpan, Alimi, and Emmanuel—were apprehended in Akure, Emure, and Upeme-Owo, respectively.

Among other arrests:

ATM Fraud: Adu Ojo was paraded for allegedly scamming unsuspecting victims by manipulating ATMs to trap their cards, retrieve them using a secret code, and drain their bank accounts.
Rape & Conspiracy: Two suspects, Mafo and Asara, were taken into custody for conspiracy and rape.
Illegal Grazing: Idris Umaru was caught illegally grazing on a farmer’s land and employing underage herders.
Burglary & Theft: Three suspects—Oluwafemi, Francis, and Sunday—were arrested for burglary, while another, Lawal, was nabbed for stealing mobile phones and pumping machines.
Motorcycle Robbery: Ismaila Kazim was arrested for allegedly attacking commercial motorcyclists, stealing their motorcycles, and selling them.
Authorities have assured residents of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
