Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has confirmed the rescue of 82 worshippers abducted during a deadly attack on Kurmin Wali village in Kajuru Local Government Area.

The governor made the disclosure during a visit to the victims at the Women and Children Shelter in Kaduna, where they are currently receiving medical attention and psychosocial support.

Expressing sympathy to the survivors, Sani assured residents of Kurmin Wali that efforts are ongoing to secure the freedom of those still being held by bandits.

“I want to reassure the people of Kurmin Wali community that the remaining victims in captivity will be rescued within the next few days,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to end banditry and kidnapping across Kaduna State, stressing that the government would not relent until every abducted person is safely reunited with their families.

“No effort will be spared until all those still in captivity are rescued. We remain fully committed to restoring peace and security across our state,” Sani added.

The governor also commended security agencies for their swift response and dedication, urging residents to continue cooperating with authorities to achieve lasting peace.

A total of 177 worshippers were reportedly abducted on January 18 when gunmen stormed three churches in the Kurmin Wali community. The incident sparked outrage after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State raised the alarm.

Authorities initially denied the attack before the Nigeria Police Force later confirmed it.

Speaking days after the incident, Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, acknowledged the development, saying, “The incident did happen.”

The state government says security operations have been intensified in Kajuru and surrounding areas as efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining victims.
