Suspected gunmen have abducted a nine-year-old boy during a midnight attack on a community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, prompting a joint search operation by security agencies.

The victim, identified as Olaosebikan Victor, was reportedly taken from his family home in Ugbosi Quarters, Idogun, after armed men invaded the area and fired gunshots indiscriminately, causing panic among residents.

According to police reports, the attackers forced their way into the residence of Victor’s father, Olaosebikan Isaac. In a bid to escape the assault, Isaac fled into a nearby bush, leaving the child behind. The gunmen subsequently abducted the boy and escaped.

The assailants also allegedly attempted to break into the home of another resident, Joel Owalekan, damaging parts of the building during the attack. Owalekan was said to have escaped unharmed.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said security operatives launched an immediate rescue operation following reports of the attack.

“The Divisional Police Officer and his team, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, swiftly mobilised to the area and commenced a coordinated search-and-rescue operation,” Mr Abayomi said.

He explained that security personnel combed nearby forests and suspected escape routes in an effort to rescue the child and apprehend the kidnappers.

Mr Abayomi added that investigations were underway and exhibits had been recovered from the scene.

“All tactical teams, intelligence units and other relevant security assets have been directed to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of the victim unharmed and the arrest of the perpetrators,” he said.

The police spokesman said the command was working closely with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the suspects and ensure they face justice.

He assured residents that every available resource was being deployed to secure the safe rescue of the abducted child.

Mr Abayomi also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

“Anyone with credible and actionable information relating to the abducted child or the suspects is encouraged to report promptly to the nearest police station or other security agency,” he said.
