Tunisia’s President Fires Finance Minister, Appoints Magistrate Amid Economic Struggles

Tunisia’s President, Kais Saied, has dismissed Finance Minister Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia and appointed Michket Slama Khaldi as her replacement, the presidency announced overnight on Facebook.

Khaldi, a magistrate, previously led a national commission focused on recovering embezzled public funds. The presidency shared images of her swearing-in ceremony but did not provide further details regarding the decision or the outgoing minister’s departure.

Tunisia has faced ongoing economic challenges, including periodic shortages of essential goods such as milk, sugar, and flour. More recently, the country has also experienced a scarcity of domestic gas cylinders, which many households rely on for cooking and heating.
