The suspended Students’ Union Government President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, has been reinstated following intervention by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, announced the development in a post on X, describing the reinstatement as the outcome of sustained engagement with the university management.

“Finally, Comrade Adio, the FUOYE SUG President, has been officially reinstated,” Mr Babatunde wrote.

The student body had earlier disclosed that the university’s Senate would review Mr Adio’s suspension after what it described as high-level discussions with the institution’s authorities.

According to NANS, the intervention also led to the reinstatement of other affected students who had previously been suspended by the university.

Mr Babatunde said the university’s Senate was expected to give the student leader fair consideration.

“The University Senate will convene this month to give Comrade James Adio fair consideration and the necessary support that will serve both the interest of justice and his academic pursuits going forward,” he said.

He added that the affected students had been allowed to return to academic activities and sit for their examinations.

Mr Adio was suspended alongside two other students over alleged financial irregularities involving practical fees, a decision that attracted criticism from NANS and prompted calls for a review of the disciplinary measures.

The development marks a resolution to weeks of tension between the student body and the university management over the disciplinary action.

Neither the university management nor the Senate had publicly commented on the reinstatement at the time of filing this report.
