Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Iyabo Ojo, has stirred conversations online after sharing a cryptic message on her Instagram page, appearing to address the growing wave of controversies rocking Nigeria’s film industry.
The movie star, posted a photo of a billboard with the inscription, “Jealousy is the last class to attend before becoming a witch,” alongside a caption that suggested she is unfazed by critics and industry drama.
In her post, Ojo wrote:
“Who made the rules? Nobody you gotta answer to. This Year ain’t for talkers — it’s for doers. Do what works for YOU. Let others win their way. You win yours. Period.”
Although she did not mention any individual or specific incident, fans and industry observers believe the message was a subtle response to the ongoing tensions within Nollywood, as the actress emphasised her resolve to stay focused on personal growth rather than engage detractors.
Iyabo Ojo, known for her outspoken nature, has previously been involved in several high-profile disputes with colleagues, often airing her views openly on social media.
Her post comes amid renewed debates in the Nigerian film industry over creativity, promotion and online visibility.
Recently, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan drew criticism after lamenting what he described as increasing pressure on filmmakers to dance, create skits and maintain constant online presence to promote their movies.
Reacting to the discourse, actress and producer Funke Akindele urged creatives to focus on innovation instead of criticism.
She said:
“If you can’t beat them or join them, create your own path. No allow jealousy burn you. The sky is so big for everybody to fly.”
Similarly, Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde shared her perspective, noting that while she does not oppose dancing during movie promotions, she would not participate if it feels forced or obligatory.
As conversations continue to swirl online, Iyabo Ojo’s latest post appears to underline her determination to move forward on her own terms, amid an industry navigating rapid change and heightened competition.
