The Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has called on leaders at all levels to embrace selfless service, drawing inspiration from Jesus Christ’s sacrificial life.
Speaking in Abuja during the Holy Communion Service and the Imposition of Ashes to mark the beginning of Lent, Ndukuba emphasized that God expects everyone—regardless of position or status—to serve with humility and devotion.
“This is a time for all of us to serve dutifully and sacrificially, whether in the office, on the farm, in the market, in businesses, in our churches, or in schools,” he said. “Let us look beyond worldly gains and focus on the glory of heaven, striving for peace with God and with one another.”
He urged leaders to make decisions in the nation’s best interest rather than pursuing personal gain, adding that true leadership requires selflessness.
“As Jesus said, ‘I came not to be served but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for many.’ Our leaders should take a cue from Christ’s 40-day fast and sacrifice for the nation’s progress,” he stated.
Reverend Ndukuba also encouraged Nigerians to use the Lenten season to seek God’s guidance, pray together across religious divides, and promote unity and tolerance.
