The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria, urging them to embrace hope, sacrifice, and national unity.
In a statement marking the celebration of Easter, Comrade Ike described the occasion as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolising victory over death, the triumph of light over darkness, and the promise of redemption.
She called on Christians to reflect on the virtues of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and selfless service, as exemplified by Jesus Christ, noting that these values are essential for fostering peace, moral integrity, and compassion in society.
The NUJ chairman also commended the spiritual discipline observed during the Lenten season, which she said underscores the commitment of the faithful to prayer, fasting, and acts of charity.
Addressing journalists in particular, Ike urged members of the profession to uphold truth, fairness, and responsibility in the discharge of their duties, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
She further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to promote unity, tolerance, and mutual respect, stressing that the country’s strength lies in its diversity.
Comrade Ike encouraged citizens to extend love and support to the less privileged, describing Easter as not only a season of faith but also of compassion and giving.
She also urged leaders at all levels to draw inspiration from the spirit of sacrifice and service associated with Easter by prioritising citizens’ welfare, promoting justice, and ensuring inclusive governance.
While wishing Christians a joyful and peaceful celebration, Ike advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and in an atmosphere of peace and goodwill.
