Nigeria Hails Jamaica’s Progress, Strengthens Bilateral Relations on 61st Independence

Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of Jamaica on the occasion of the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a the Honourable Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed warm greetings to his Jamaican counterpart, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

Ambassador Tuggar hailed the longstanding historical and cultural bonds between Nigeria and Jamaica, noting their shared African heritage and mutual commitment to the advancement of the global African diaspora.

He praised Jamaica’s progress in governance, education, culture, sports, and sustainable development, describing the nation’s achievements as a source of inspiration throughout Africa, the Caribbean, and the broader international community.

“Jamaica’s resilience and accomplishments reflect the spirit of its people and its dedication to national growth and global engagement,” Tuggar stated.

The minister reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Jamaica across key sectors such as trade, education, tourism, sports, and cultural exchange, for the mutual benefit of both nations.

As Jamaica marks its independence, Nigeria pledged continued collaboration with the island nation at multilateral platforms including the United Nations and the Commonwealth, in pursuit of shared values of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
