The final rites for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will take place on Friday, with dignitaries from across Nigeria expected to attend the burial ceremony.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is scheduled to lead government officials, traditional rulers, and other prominent figures to the funeral service, which will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Aremo, in the ancient city of Ibadan.
According to the Palace Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Ayoade, a special book presentation will follow the funeral reception at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, in honour of the 43rd Olubadan.
The book, titled “How Not to Be a King”, was originally intended to commemorate the monarch’s 90th birthday and coronation anniversary. However, following his passing on July 7, the presentation was rescheduled as part of the funeral programme.
Chief Ayoade revealed that the book delves into the life and reign of Oba Olakulehin, capturing personal reflections, tributes, and historical insights from family members, friends, close associates, and members of the Olubadan Advisory Council.
Described as a monarch deeply committed to the unity and development of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin’s legacy continues to resonate among his people. In preparation for the burial, commemorative activities are ongoing at his Alalubosa GRA residence, Aleshiloye, and the Central Palace in Oke Aremo.
