President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigerians in the diaspora for their outstanding contributions across various sectors, stating that their positive impact serves as an inspiration to the younger generation and enhances Nigeria’s global image.

The President made these remarks while receiving Letters of Credence from the High Commissioners of Canada and Sierra Leone—Pasquale Salvaggio and Dr. Julius F. Sandy, respectively—at the State House in Abuja. He also welcomed the new Ambassador of Ethiopia, Legesse Geremew Haile, and the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty.

Nigeria-Canada Relations
During his presentation, the Canadian High Commissioner, Salvaggio, lauded Nigerians’ achievements in education, sports, science, and business in Canada, describing them as responsible, purposeful, and highly skilled.

“For us, Nigeria is a key partner. You are the largest country in Africa with one of the largest economies. You are also Canada’s largest trading partner in Africa,” Salvaggio said.

He further expressed Canada’s interest in strengthening partnerships in oil and gas, ICT, and agriculture.

Strengthening West African Ties
In his meeting with Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner, Dr. Julius F. Sandy, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional development, highlighting decades of investment in Sierra Leone’s progress.

Dr. Sandy acknowledged Nigeria’s significant influence, noting that many businesses in Sierra Leone are owned by Nigerians and that Nigerian teachers have played a major role in shaping the country’s education system.

Nigeria-Ethiopia Relations
Addressing Ethiopia’s new Ambassador, President Tinubu emphasized the need for African nations to work together to combat insecurity, which he identified as a major obstacle to development

“Insecurity detracts from development. We do not have anybody that will bring peace to us, except we work for it,” Tinubu said.

Ambassador Haile pledged to strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two nations, noting that Ethiopian Airlines already plays a key role in fostering cultural exchanges.

Catholic Church’s Role in Education and Poverty Reduction
Receiving the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican, President Tinubu commended the Catholic Church for its contributions to education and poverty alleviation in Nigeria.

“We have a lot of value for education in Nigeria, and the Catholic Church has done a lot in that regard, as well as in fighting poverty. Education reduces ignorance and poverty,” he said.

The President expressed his eagerness to host Vatican leadership in Nigeria to further discussions on areas of collaboration.

Expanding Diplomatic and Economic Partnerships
The series of diplomatic engagements underscore Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic opportunities, and fostering regional stability.
