Three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) have been killed in a bandit attack along the Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The officers, identified as DCRMA Umar Aliyu, SRMA Ezra Manu Gona, and RMA I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir, were reportedly ambushed while carrying out official duties in the area.
Sources familiar with the incident said the officers encountered a group of armed bandits riding motorcycles and attempted to escape after spotting them. However, the assailants opened fire, killing the three personnel on the spot.
Witnesses disclosed that the attackers, estimated to be about 20 in number, retreated into nearby bushes after carrying out the attack. The source noted that security personnel operating in the Tsamiya axis have repeatedly come under attack from armed groups.
According to local accounts, the latest incident marks the fifth attack targeting security operatives in the area. Residents described the Tsamiya and Maje axis of Bagudo as one of the most volatile locations in Kebbi State, with recurring attacks by bandits and members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The area has witnessed a series of deadly assaults over the past year, with reports indicating that about 10 officers from the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration Service, and the Police Force were killed in separate attacks within the same corridor.
The FRSC personnel were reportedly killed over the weekend. However, as of Monday, the Kebbi State Command of the FRSC had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The attack underscores the growing security challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria and raises fresh concerns over the safety of security and law enforcement personnel operating in high-risk areas.
