A mother of one of the 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State says she paid ₦3 million in ransom to secure her child’s release.
The distraught mother said she struggled to raise the money while fearing for her child’s life.
“I paid as much as ₦3 million as ransom while I was hoping that nothing happened to my child,” she said.
“I ran helter-skelter to raise the money. I eventually got the money and sent someone to deliver the ransom directly to them,” she added.
The parents of the 20 prospective corps members recounted their ordeal after their children were abducted while travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their respective NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states.
The abduction occurred six days before the parents’ accounts emerged, leaving families scrambling to secure their children’s release.
The mother’s account highlights the financial and emotional toll of the incident on families forced to raise large sums of money while fearing for the safety of their loved ones.
