The Lagos State Government has urged residents aged between 18 and 26 to apply for the ongoing military recruitment exercise to help the state meet its recruitment quota.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the appeal during a meeting with the 57 local government secretaries and representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

“We want a lot of our children between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply so that Lagos State can meet its quota again for this season,” she said.

The meeting also addressed security, governance and preparations for forthcoming elections, with Salu-Hundeyin urging stakeholders to work together to maintain peace across the state.

She said local government secretaries had an important role in identifying challenges at the grassroots, informing their council chairmen and referring issues requiring state government intervention to the appropriate authorities.

“This is how to have good governance, because we must ask for the best. Our people must know what we are doing, and we must look at policies,” she said.

Salu-Hundeyin added that the state government was committed to reviewing policies that were not delivering the desired results and making adjustments to improve residents’ welfare.

She said the PCRC was invited to the meeting because of its role in supporting security efforts across Lagos.

“The state government has given a marching order that, as usual, more than ever before, Lagos must remain peaceful,” she said.

The SSG said the discussions were aimed at strengthening governance, improving security and ensuring better living conditions for residents.

She described the ultimate goal of governance as the need “to deliver better livability to our people.”
