The Yobe State Government has approved the recruitment of 267 health technicians to boost staffing in medical facilities across the state.
According to a statement from Mamman Muhammad, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, the new hires include 140 government-sponsored graduates of medical sciences from India. The group comprises 43 B.Sc. Nursing graduates, 43 B.Sc. Pharmacy graduates, 22 B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science graduates, 24 B.Sc. Radiology graduates, 7 B.Sc. Optometry graduates, and 1 B.Sc. Public Health graduate.
Additionally, Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the employment of 127 health technicians who had been serving as volunteers in state-owned health institutions. The decision aligns with the administration’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector by absorbing qualified medical personnel into full-time positions.
Hospital Upgrades and Improved Healthcare Infrastructure
In a bid to enhance healthcare delivery, the state government has upgraded four General Hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam, and Buni Yadi to Specialist Hospitals. Moreover, eight Primary Health Centers have been upgraded to General Hospitals, and the State Teaching Hospital has been equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
Over the past five years, the Buni-led administration has consistently granted automatic employment to graduates of the state-owned Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, further strengthening healthcare services across Yobe.
The latest recruitment and infrastructure upgrades are expected to improve healthcare accessibility, affordability, and service delivery for residents across the state.
