The fourth edition of the ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity Hackathon has commenced in Accra, Ghana, bringing together some of West Africa’s most talented cybersecurity experts to strengthen regional cooperation and digital resilience.
The event, which began at 13:00 GMT on 9 June 2026, is themed “Regional Collaboration through Technology: Building the Digital Future of West Africa Together.” It features a 48-hour competition involving participants from 12 ECOWAS member states.
During the hackathon, contestants will engage in practical cybersecurity challenge exercises aimed at enhancing critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving abilities in responding to evolving cyber threats. Organisers say the competition is designed to test participants’ technical skills while encouraging collaboration across borders.
The initiative seeks to deepen regional cooperation in cybersecurity, build local capacity and equip young professionals with the expertise needed to protect critical digital infrastructure. It also provides a platform for knowledge sharing and innovation among cybersecurity practitioners in the region.
ECOWAS says the hackathon reflects its commitment to promoting a secure and trusted digital environment across West Africa as countries increasingly rely on technology for economic growth, governance and regional integration.
