Authorities at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, have launched an intensified search for a missing student, Dorcas Oseghale, who disappeared four days ago.
Dorcas, a Part-3 Chemistry student with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen on Thursday, August 7, 2025, after telling a friend she was going to buy food at the Students’ Village along Ede Road. Since then, neither she nor her phone has been reachable.
In a statement on Sunday, OAU’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the matter had been reported to the Osun State Police Command to broaden the search.
“On August 7, around 3:00 p.m., reports of a missing female student emerged on a students’ social media platform. By 6:10 p.m., students from the Chemistry Department, along with Dorcas’ roommate, formally reported the case to the university’s Security Unit,” Olarewaju said.
Due to the complexity of the case, three university security officers were assigned to accompany the students to the police, who have the manpower and expertise to lead the investigation.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire commended students for their swift action in reporting the incident. He called on security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to find Dorcas and urged anyone with useful information to contact the police or the university’s Security Unit immediately.
The university community remains on high alert as friends, classmates, and concerned Nigerians share missing-person alerts across social media.
