Tragedy in Lagos: Gas Tanker Explosion Claims Lives, Destroys Properties

Lagos witnessed a devastating gas explosion on Monday night after an articulated vehicle transporting gas somersaulted near the Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The accident led to a massive fire outbreak, causing loss of lives and extensive property damage.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the truck lost control while attempting to ascend the link road, resulting in the vehicle overturning. The gas it was carrying spilled onto the road, igniting a fierce inferno.

Emergency responders recovered two bodies from the scene overnight. Additionally, four buildings, 14 vehicles—including motorcycles—several shops, and household properties were destroyed. Reports suggest that more individuals may have suffered severe burns in the fire.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that rescue efforts were ongoing, and further details on casualties would be provided as emergency operations continue.

Authorities urge motorists and residents to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
