In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and deepening democratic participation, the Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants to serve across the state’s 236 wards.

The announcement was made in a statement released in Abeokuta by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

According to Akinmade, the appointments are part of the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of the state.

“The assistants — five from each of the 236 wards in Ogun State — will ensure greater local participation in governance, effectively bridging the gap between the grassroots and the state government,” Akinmade stated.

Enhancing Civic Engagement and Community Feedback

Akinmade stated that the newly appointed political aides are expected to articulate the developmental needs of their respective wards; Relay these needs to the state government in real time; Provide accurate feedback from the government back to the communities; Support the implementation of state-led initiatives at the local level.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser emphasized that this initiative delivers on Governor Abiodun’s campaign promise to operate a people-centered, participatory administration that values the input of all citizens in shaping policies and developmental projects.

“This strategic move is designed to strengthen democratic governance across all nooks and crannies of Ogun State,” Akinmade added.

The Ogun State Government charged the appointees to be change agents who will contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of their wards, local governments, and the state at large.
