The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has forged a strategic partnership with Premium Times to promote press freedom, ethical journalism, and the welfare of media professionals.
During a courtesy visit to the Premium Times office on Tuesday, NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to strengthening journalism in Nigeria. Accompanied by Vice Chairman Yahaya Ndambabo, Secretary Jide Oyekunle, and Treasurer Sandra Udeike, Ike praised Premium Times for its credibility and influence in the media space.
“Our primary goal is to safeguard journalists’ welfare and uphold their rights. We advocate for better working conditions, legal protections, and continuous professional training,” Ike stated.
Premium Times’ Editor-in-Chief, Musikilu Mojeed, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing the need for ethical journalism and structured training programs. He noted that many young journalists lack formal media ethics education and called for more initiatives to bridge this gap.
The discussions explored potential joint programs, including training workshops, public forums, and investigative reporting collaborations. Mojeed also stressed the importance of providing journalists with essential welfare benefits such as health insurance and pension plans.
As a symbolic gesture, the NUJ presented a souvenir to Mojeed, who in turn gifted copies of his latest book and industry reports to the NUJ delegation.
This partnership aims to foster a responsible and well-equipped media industry, ensuring Nigerian journalists can operate freely and professionally.
