Ambassador Yu said the grant was part of China’s continued support for Nigeria’s development and economic growth.
ABUJA, August 13, 2026 — China is to provide Nigeria with RMB 200 million in grant assistance to support the implementation of projects agreed by both governments.
The announcement was made on Thursday when Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, met with the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Dunoma Umar Ahmed, in Abuja.
Ambassador Yu said the grant was part of China’s continued support for Nigeria’s development and economic growth.
He said China-Nigeria relations had remained at the forefront of China-Africa relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties 55 years ago.
«“In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has entered a new stage of high-quality development,” Mr Yu said.»
The ambassador said both countries had maintained close communication and cooperation while working to implement agreements reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that China and Nigeria were also working to implement the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit.
According to him, the goal was to ensure that the benefits of bilateral cooperation reached citizens in both countries.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr Dunoma Umar Ahmed, thanked the Chinese government for what he described as its concrete support for Nigeria’s economic and social development.
He said the grant demonstrated China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria and reflected the strong relationship between the two countries.
«“Nigeria will make effective use of the grant assistance,” Dr Ahmed said.»
He added that Nigeria would work with China to implement agreements reached by the two governments and further strengthen bilateral relations.
The latest commitment comes as Nigeria and China continue to deepen economic, diplomatic and development cooperation under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
