Afrobeats megastar, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy has sparked controversy after stopping his concert mid-performance in Colorado, USA, to confront a fan whose girlfriend appeared to be asleep during his set.
In a viral video from the show, the Grammy Award-winning artist, paused his performance and addressed the audience in frustration.
“We’re doing this because we love you,” Burna Boy said. “So when I stand up here and see you over there with your girl sleeping in front of me, it pisses me off. Please take her home, fast. I’m not doing another song until you take her home. Real life.”
The statement drew mixed reactions from the crowd. Some pleaded with the singer to continue performing, while others urged the couple to leave so the concert could go on. One attendee was even heard shouting, “Please, it’s my birthday!” in an attempt to defuse the tension.
However, Burna Boy stood firm, declaring, “Walahi, I’m not doing another song till you go home.”
According to eyewitnesses, the couple remained seated briefly before security escorted them out of the venue, allowing the show to resume.
The incident quickly went viral on social media, dividing fans. While some defended Burna Boy for demanding energy and respect from his audience, others criticized his reaction as too harsh and unprofessional.
Burna Boy, known for his intense stage presence and zero-tolerance approach to disrespect, has previously made headlines for confronting fans during performances over perceived slights or lack of engagement.
